After working as an assistant between 1997-2004 and in the SB Haseki Training and Research Hospital Endoscopy and ERCP unit for 13 months, he started his academic life in 2010 at Yüzüncü Yıl University Faculty of Medicine after his experience in 2005-2009 (Private hospital).

He continued his ERCP training at SB Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital for 3 months between 2010-2011, and as a Fellow at Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine International Hospital Solid Organ Transplantation Unit between 2012-2014

He was awarded the title of associate professor in 2012 and the title of professor in 2017. Prof. Dr. Kemik, who received a subspecialty in Surgical Oncology with the decision of TUK in 2012, was appointed to the Organ Transplantation Center Director and the head of the Surgical Oncology department in 2014.

He attended many national and international courses in the field of Obesity, Surgical Oncology and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery and received training. He is a member of the Turkish Medical Association, Turkish Surgery Association, Turkish Colon and Rectum Surgery Association, Turkish Hepatobiliary Surgery Association, Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Association (Member of the Board of Directors (2014-2017 period).

Prof. Dr. Özgür Kemik worked as a Specialist in Charge of General Surgery, Surgical Oncology and Solid Organ Transplantation at Yüzüncü Yıl University Faculty of Medicine. Prof. Kemik is still actively involved; Laparoscopic Upper and Lower Gastrointestinal System Malignancy operations (Esophagus, Stomach, Colon, Rectum, Small Intestine), Endocrine(Troid, parathyroid, adrenal(adrenal) gland) and Breast surgery, Treatment of obesity and Type 2 diabetes with minimally invasive surgical methods (Laparoscopic, SILS), Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures (Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy), Diagnostic and therapeutic interventions of the biliary tract with endoscopic methods (ERCP), Kidney Transplantation applications (Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy, Living Recipient – Donor and Cadaveric Organ Transplantation), Laparoscopic hiatal hernia and reflux operations, Laparoscopic Hernia operations (Abdominal wall, groin, belly, incision site)

Prof. Dr. Özgür Kemik served as a subordinate of USA, Yüzüncü Yıl University, Faculty of Medicine, General Surgery, Organ Transplantation Central Directorate, Head of Surgical Oncology Department. Prof. Dr. Kemik, who has publications in many national and international scientific journals, has received various awards for his research and presentations.

As of May 2021, he resigned from Yüzüncü Yıl University Faculty of Medicine and started Altınbaş University Hospital Medical Park Bahçelievler Hospital in January 2022. Prof. Kemik has over 100 articles, 90 of which are internationally cited, over 1200 national and international journals, authoring and translation of 2 book chapters. He can speak English.
